Bree Anderson was born in Christchurch, a large city located in the South Island in New Zealand. Bree’s parents are involved in a business which requires relocating often. Bree spent some time in a small town called Waimate, and is now currently based in Nelson, a city where she has lived in for the last nine years. Bree was introduced to swimming through her older brother. She joined the Nelson Swimming Club at the age of ten and has not looked back since.

Bree has been very successful in swimming throughout her teenage years. She has not only won national championships but also represented New Zealand in the 2017 State Short Course Championship in Canberra, Australia. This year Bree has also had success this year securing five medals at the New Zealand Short Course Championship.

We started helping Bree with her swimming scholarship on the 12th of May 2020, and seven months later she signed her swimming scholarship with Wagner College in New York. Wagner College competes within the NCAA Division I Northeast Conference. The university is located in Staten Island, a short drive away from Manhattan. Wagner College is known for its strong business program and has amazing connections with international businesses. Bree will be joining the swimming team in August 2021 as a freshman.

“Wagner was the best fit for my swimming and academics as it had the balance I was looking for. I was looking for a strong swim team which also had a strong business program. Being very close to New York, Wagner gives me the opportunity to participate in an internship programme and learn about business processes that I wouldn’t find at other colleges. The campus and school size are small which was important as coming from New Zealand I’m not used to large class sizes or big school campuses. After talking with the coaches and girls on the swim team Wagner was the obvious choice.

I can’t go past the help I had with the recruitment process. Amrit (Director) and Natasha (Swimming Recruiter) listened to everything I wanted in a school, which resulted in finding the perfect school for me and my family’s needs. Amrit was easy to contact and within minutes of a question arising I had an answer. Before signing to Platform, the college recruitment process seemed scary but with the help of Platform, it became a process that I was so excited to be involved with. Having the recruitment team both in New Zealand and in America meant there was an understanding between what I needed and what the college experience could offer me. I felt very well informed and supported  throughout the process”

We are so proud of Bree and all her hard work has paid off. We cannot wait to watch her compete!

Let’s go Seahawks!
