How early prep, mindset, and smart choices can shape your next chapter
The idea of playing college golf in the U.S. is exciting; private facilities, scholarship dollars, a shot at going pro. But what does it really take to get there? And more importantly, what makes it worth it?
In our latest webinar, Platform Sports Founder Amrit RAI broke it all down: not just how to get recruited, but how to own your journey from high school fairways to U.S. college campuses.
This one’s for the golfers (and the parents) who want more than just surface-level advice.
Because it’s more than a plan B, it’s a launchpad.
Amrit knows what it's like to grow up without access to these opportunities. Raised in regional New Zealand, he never got this conversation when it mattered. That gap sparked the creation of Platform Sports — now 10 years strong, with over 2,000 athletes supported and $100M+ in scholarship aid secured.
His message to families:
“You don’t have to be the next Lydia Ko. But you do need structure, strategy, and the right mindset to make this journey work.”
Most people talk about NCAA Division I like it’s the only route. It’s not. Amrit breaks it down:
Each system offers scholarships. Each has pros and cons. The real key? Knowing which one aligns with your goals.
There’s no one-size-fits-all.
Some want to turn pro. Others want international experience. And many are looking for high-quality education without the price tag.
Amrit shared examples:
Every athlete had a different “why.” That’s the first step: Know yours.
Forget highlight reels, start thinking like a coach.
They want student-athletes, not just golfers. That means:
“Coaches don’t just recruit swings,” says Amrit. “They recruit people.”
Think it’s just golf? Think again.
Amrit walked through facilities and support systems that rival pro teams; private hitting bays, on-site physios, recovery suites, strength and conditioning coaches, nutrition stations, and even private jets (yes, really).
But it’s not the flash that matters, it’s the growth.
“The structure teaches discipline, resilience, and how to manage yourself at a high level,” says Amrit.
Enter: Junior College (JUCO).
If your game isn’t where it needs to be, or the cost of a four-year school is out of reach — JUCO gives you two years to develop, earn your diploma, and transfer up without losing time or value.
It’s the college athlete equivalent of playing smart defence: gain experience, sharpen your CV, and re-enter the system stronger.
Amrit’s advice was clear:
This wasn’t just a how-to webinar, it was a call to take action.
Whether you’re a golfer dreaming of the tour or a parent seeking clarity, the U.S. system offers real opportunity but only if you prepare for it. Platform Sports is here to guide the way.
