Marco Azar is a tennis student-athlete from Lebanon who entered the American college system in the fall of 2021.

Marco currently competes for Johns Hopkins University which is an NCAA Division III college that competes within the Centennial Conference. The university is among the most well-renowned colleges in the United States for academics because of its contributions to medical research and its pivotal roles in medical breakthroughs. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is consistently ranked as one of the top public health schools in the world.

The athletic teams at Johns Hopkins University utilize the freshly renovated varsity weight room within the Newton White Athletic Center. This revamped facility not only boasts state-of-the-art training and weightlifting equipment but also underwent significant enhancements in the summer of 2005, including installing a new floor, air conditioning, and a sound system. These improvements were part of a $250,000 renovation project for the room.

In the fall of 2014, the Johns Hopkins men’s and women’s tennis teams unveiled a set of entirely new tennis courts. This impressive $1.5 million facility upgrade encompassed a comprehensive renovation of all six courts, which now boast Deco Turf, a premium multi-layer cushioned surface known for delivering unparalleled player comfort and exceptional performance. Notably, this surface mirrors the one used at the US Open and shares the distinctive colour scheme found at the Australian Open.

Marco’s time at Johns Hopkins has been incredibly successful both athletically and academically. He went 12-3 in singles and 17-3 in doubles in 2022 and finished his season on a seven-match winning streak in singles. In 2023, he has won seven straight singles matches from February 19th to April 16th and seven straight doubles matches from February 19th to April 13th. Additionally, Azar also received the ITA Scholar-Athlete award in 2022 and the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2023.

“Playing college tennis was a decision that I made with great enthusiasm since I was encouraged by the right people. Amrit was very helpful, not only in terms of helping me find the best college but also being realistic and telling me what is and isn’t realistic since the beginning of the process. I wouldn’t have been a Hopkins Tennis student-athlete without his help!” – Marco Azar
